Our Learning Journey:
From the Spring to Ocean
At Leigh School, we've given our classrooms special names that tell a story about your child's learning journey with us.
Our three classrooms are:
Te Waipuna the spring
Te Awa the river
Te Moana the ocean
These names aren't just beautiful words; they represent the flow and growth of learning your child will experience throughout their years at our school.
We believe this journey from Te Waipuna through to Te Moana beautifully captures the progression of learning at Leigh School – a journey that nurtures curiosity, builds resilience, and prepares our tamariki for a lifetime of discovery.
Te Waipuna:
The Spring of Knowledge
Imagine a spring – Te Waipuna. It's where water first bubbles up, clear and fresh, marking the very beginning of a journey. This is our new entrant classroom, where your child starts their schooling. Just like a spring is the source of a river, Te Waipuna is where the foundations of learning are laid. Here, our youngest learners begin to explore, discover, and develop their initial understanding of the world around them. It's a place of pure potential, curiosity, and the gentle beginnings of knowledge.
Te Awa:
The Flow of Discovery
As the water flows from the spring, it becomes a river – Te Awa. This represents our middle classroom. In Te Awa, the learning journey deepens and broadens. Just as a river gathers momentum and flows through diverse landscapes, our students in Te Awa will encounter new ideas, challenges, and opportunities to grow. They'll develop essential skills, navigate more complex concepts, and begin to understand the interconnectedness of their learning. It's a stage of active exploration, collaboration, and building strength as they move forward.
Te Moana:
The Ocean of Lifelong Learning
Finally, the river flows into the vast and boundless ocean – Te Moana. This represents all of the amazing new adventures and learning that lie ahead as students complete their last few years of primary schooling. It signifies a readiness to explore new horizons, and the confidence to navigate and access deeper curriculum. While they may leave our shores, the knowledge, skills, and values they've gained will equip them to continue their journey of lifelong learning, contributing to and exploring the vastness of the world, just like the ocean touches every shore.
