Community Connections

At Leigh School, we are proud to be at the heart of a vibrant and supportive community. Our connections extend across local organisations, environmental projects, and partnerships that enrich learning for our tamariki and strengthen our shared sense of place.

We have a special relationship with Leigh Community Preschool, located just through the fence, and our close connection ensures smooth transitions and shared experiences between our youngest learners and our school.

Many of our past and present whānau work at Auckland University’s Leigh Marine Laboratory at Goat Island, contributing to the rich scientific and environmental knowledge that inspires our own learning programmes.

Through the Auckland Council Adopt a Park initiative, we have proudly adopted Matheson Bay. Our students take kaitiakitanga to heart, planting hundreds of native trees, monitoring the health of Te Kohuroa, and carrying out regular beach clean ups. We’ve even received compost for our school gardens made from the recent kina harvest, part of the Te Kohuroa Rewilding Project, deepening our connection to this important local ecosystem.

Our commitment to sustainability continues at school, where we actively trap rodents as part of the Pest Free Leigh Initiative.

Together, these partnerships and projects reflect who we are; a school deeply rooted in community, guided by environmental responsibility, and proud to grow alongside the people and places that make Leigh so special.
